Prasad
Dr. Vishwanath (Vish) Prasad is the Dean
of the College of Engineering and Distinguished Professor
of Engineering at FIU. In just two years at FIU, Dean Prasad
has initiated several new academic and research programs,
including a BS in Biomedical Engineering, MS in Telecommunications
and Networking, MS in Materials Science & Engineering,
MS in Technology Management and Ph.D. in Industrial and
Systems Engineering, and a proposal for a Ph.D. in Biomedical
Engineering is pending state approval. Also, a new Center
for Diversity
in Engineering has been created to encourage students from
minority groups to pursue engineering degrees. He has established
an Advanced Materials Engineering Research Institute to
promote multi-disciplinary research in materials science
and engineering. In addition, he has initiated research
programs in nanotechnology, nanomaterials and nanoelectronics.
During the last two years, engineering enrollment at MS
and Ph.D. level has increased by 20% and over 100%, respectively.
Dr. Prasad is also the founding President of Latin American
and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions. He
has establish a close collaborate relationship between
the College of Engineering and the College of Business
Administration to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.
Prior to coming to FIU, Dr. Prasad served
as a Leading Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Materials
Science and Engineering at the State University of New
York at Stony Brook and as Director of the Center for Crystal
Growth Research and Associate Dean of Engineering for Research
and Graduate Studies. Dr. Prasad is an elected Fellow of
ASME, and a member of the USRA Microgravity Research Council
for NASA Programs in Fluid Physics, Combustion and Materials.
He has served as the Chair of the ASME Heat Transfer Division
Committee on Transport Phenomena in Manufacturing and Materials
Processing. Dr. Prasad is a co-principal investigator of
the NSF (MRSEC) Center for Thermal Spray Research. From
1984 to 1993, Dr. Prasad served as a faculty member at
Columbia University. He has written over 180 refereed articles
on
various topics. Dr. Prasad has organized numerous conferences,
symposia and workshops, and has been invited to present
special lectures at many academic institutions and industry
in USA and abroad. He received his Ph.D. from the University
of Delaware in 1983 and M. Tech. from IIT, Kanpur, India. |
